Challenge
Focusing on this opportunity, I had the chance to combine my passion of creating user experiences and multimedia technology with my experience and love of comic books and superheroes. Inspired by the fact Marvel was creating a Spiderman movie, I pitched the idea to the owners of Ecarddirect that we should take their successful interactive business card model into the entertainment world of superheroes.
Marvel loved the idea, but given our licensing agreement, we needed to focus on current characters and existing storylines. The first interactive card sets took the art and stories of the origins of Wolverine and Venom and retold it in a rich interactive media experience. Soon after Marvel In Motion™ was born and our first interactive card featured Spiderman as a part one of six collectors cards.
Approach
As creative director, my main responsibility was to identify which superheroes and villains to use, research the stories and characters in the Marvel universe, and write content in line with the official storylines and artwork created by Marvel pencilers and writers.
I created the wire frames, workflow, and storyboards for the overall user experience of each Marvel In Motion interactive cards and using art from Marvel’s creative repository designed the visuals for the website, card layouts, and packaging.

One of the main challenges to the package design was to make it enticing enough to secure distribution deals with major retailers and stores. The challenge applied not only to the print design but the size and volume of each package. How much room a product occupies on a store shelf is more important that what it is. We learned a lot about retail strategy, product placement, and big box store operations.
